Lonestar Trauma Educators has been delivering Advanced Trauma Life Support training to Houston-area physicians and advanced practitioners since 2014. Our two-day Traditional Course gives first-time candidates — and providers whose certification has lapsed beyond the six-month grace window — the complete, hands-on preparation they need to confidently lead trauma resuscitations in the critical first hours after injury.
The ATLS Traditional Course is the original in-person format developed by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. Over two full days — approximately 16 hours of instruction — you will work through the complete ATLS curriculum with a faculty of practicing trauma surgeons and emergency medicine physicians.
The curriculum combines interactive didactic lectures with hands-on skill stations in simulated trauma environments. You will practice the primary and secondary survey, airway and ventilatory management, shock recognition and resuscitation, and the assessment and management of every major category of injury, along with transfer to definitive care.
Primary & secondary survey
Shock recognition & resuscitation
Head & spine trauma
Airway & ventilatory management
Thoracic & abdominal trauma
Musculoskeletal & thermal injuries
Candidates complete the required ACS ATLS 11 online pre-course modules before arriving, then take the written and practical post-tests on the second day.
Our Houston course is held inside a working emergency services facility, in a dedicated education wing designed for skill stations, simulation, and the kind of hands-on practice the ATLS curriculum is built to deliver. The environment isn’t an afterthought — it’s part of how the course works.
Our faculty are all ACS-approved or eligible ATLS instructors who spend their clinical days caring for trauma patients in Houston-area hospitals. They bring current, locally relevant case experience into every skill station — not lectures recycled from a decade ago.
The Houston ATLS Traditional Course is priced by provider category. No surprises at the door, no hidden fees, no upcharge for materials or testing. Eligibility is verified before payment is processed.

Houston is home to one of the busiest trauma care networks in the country. From Level I centers serving the Texas Medical Center to community emergency departments across Harris, Fort Bend, and Montgomery counties, the providers who manage injured patients here need training that matches the pace and complexity of real Houston trauma.
Our course is open to licensed physicians (MD/DO), Fellows, Residents, CRNAs, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. We welcome candidates from across Texas, throughout the United States, and internationally — many of our students travel to Houston specifically to earn their ATLS certification with us.
Our Houston ATLS courses are held in the Education Wing of the Harris County Emergency Services Building — a working emergency facility purpose-built for trauma training.

The Traditional (Initial Provider) Course is required if you are certifying for the first time, or if your ATLS card expired more than six months ago. If your card is currently valid or less than six months expired, you are eligible for the one-day Refresher Course.
Day one is primarily didactic instruction and skill stations. Day two includes additional skill practice, patient simulation scenarios, and the written and practical tests required for certification.
Four years from your course completion date. To renew without lapsing, most providers take a Refresher Course within the final year.
If your card has been expired for less than six months, you may still take a Refresher Course. If longer than six months, you must complete the full two-day Traditional Course to recertify.
Yes. The Auditor option ($375) allows you to attend the full course for educational exposure and CME, but does not include the written or practical post-tests and does not result in ATLS certification. Auditors are welcome to participate in didactic sessions and observe skill stations.
Yes. Active military personnel receive a $50 discount on any tier — Traditional Course, Refresher, or Auditor. Please indicate your status during registration.
