Lonestar Trauma Educators has been delivering Advanced Trauma Life Support training in San Antonio since 2014, with twelve Refresher Course offerings each year — roughly one per month. Our one-day Refresher is designed for currently certified providers who want to renew their ATLS card efficiently, without repeating the full two-day Initial Provider Course.
The Refresher Course is a condensed, one-day format for providers who already know the ATLS framework and need to maintain current status. The day is led by a faculty of practicing trauma surgeons and emergency medicine physicians — the same instructors who teach our Traditional Course.
Rather than re-teaching the full curriculum from the ground up, the course moves efficiently through content review and spends meaningful time in hands-on skill stations and patient simulation scenarios. Every major category of the ATLS curriculum is covered:
Primary & secondary survey
Shock recognition & resuscitation
Head & spine trauma
Airway & ventilatory management
Thoracic & abdominal trauma
Musculoskeletal & thermal injuries
Candidates complete the required ACS ATLS 11 online pre-course modules before arriving, then take the written and practical post-tests on course day.
The Refresher Course is only open to providers whose current ATLS card is valid, or has been expired for less than six months at the time of the course. If your card has been expired for longer than six months, you’ll need to complete the full two-day Traditional Course instead.
The six-month grace period only applies to your eligibility for the Refresher. It does not extend your certification for hospital credentialing purposes. If your credentialing deadline is approaching, plan to recertify before your card expires.
Our San Antonio course is held in a dedicated training space in the northwest medical corridor — designed for skill stations, simulation, and the kind of hands-on practice the ATLS curriculum is built to deliver. For providers recertifying — who have already done the full course once — that environment matters even more. You’re here to sharpen skills and run scenarios, not to sit through a textbook review.
San Antonio is also our most frequent course location. With twelve Refresher offerings scheduled each year — roughly one per month — candidates rarely have to wait or travel to find a date that fits their clinical schedule.

Active military discount: $50 off any tier. Includes all course materials, ACS ATLS 11 online pre-course access, the two-day in-person course, and (for certifying tiers) written and practical testing plus the four-year certification card upon successful completion.
San Antonio is one of the country’s most concentrated military and academic medical hubs. The South Texas Medical Center, Brooke Army Medical Center, University Hospital, and the surrounding community trauma programs together serve a vast region — from Bexar, Comal, and Guadalupe counties to the Hill Country, Laredo, the Rio Grande Valley, and the broader South Texas trauma corridor. The providers staffing these facilities need refresher training that respects their time and keeps their skills current.
Our course is open to licensed physicians (MD/DO), Fellows, Residents, CRNAs, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants with current or recently expired ATLS certification. We welcome candidates from across Texas, throughout the United States, and internationally. Military providers recertifying out of BAMC and SAMMC make up a meaningful share of our roster, and the active military discount applies on the Refresher fee.

Yes, if your current ATLS card is valid or has been expired for less than six months at the time of the course. If it’s been expired longer than six months, you’ll need to take the two-day Traditional Course.

The six-month grace period only lets you take the Refresher — it does not retroactively continue your certification for hospital credentialing during the lapsed period. If credentialing is a concern, recertify before your card expires.
Yes. As long as your ATLS card is currently valid (or less than six months expired) from any ACS-accredited site, you are eligible to recertify with us in San Antonio.
Yes. Active military personnel receive a $50 discount on any tier — Traditional Course, Refresher, or Auditor. Please indicate your status during registration.
